I had a similar issue recently. I wanted to get a smartphone with
Windows Mobile, so I could synch to my PC's Outlook. However I did
not want "push" e-mail to my phone. I wanted to leave my plan as is -
the old $5 a month mobile web plan (no longer available). Verizon
would not let me get a smart phone without getting a data plan - at
least another $20 a month... so I decided to go low tech and keep a
Motorola phone that I could at least synch to contacts and calendar
usiing Motorola phone tools.
