6300 now lacks email.
I've just lived througha very terrible experince.
Local provider here (Fido) sells a customised version of the 6300 with
the email removed. So I called Nokia and they confirmed that if I bought
a 6300 that was not network-branded (akaL store got it from nokia's
distributor), then it would have the email application on it.
So, I find a store in New York City willing to ship to Canada. After a
LOT of trouble and delays, I finallyy get it.
ONLY TO FIND THAT IT IS MISSING THE EMAIL :-( (I still have steam
coming out of my ears).
So I called Nokia, and after 3 hours of being accused of illegally
purchasing a phone and that this is why it wasn't working properly, they
finally check only to find out that Nokia has removed the email
application from the handset with no explanation. Why couldn't they have
told me this prior to buying the handset when I verified with them that
the unit had email functionality ? (POP, SMTP and IMAP, not the
blackberry style push email which I don't need).
Nokia's web sites still show the technical specs as including an email
application for this phone. So technically, this is false advertising.
I never expected to be treated so unprofessionally by Nokia. You'd think
they would treat well those customers who go out of their way to buy a
Nokia phone that is untouched by a network operator.
Getting that store to accept the unit back and refund me will be quite a
challenge.
How could Nokia be so stupid as to remove functionality from a phone ?
The software I have is:
Nokia 6300
V 04.71
28-02-07
RM-222
Language:
V 4.71
28-02-07
RM-217
Question: Has anyone had similar dealings with Nokia ? Do they treat all
their customers that way ?
Anyone have any information as to why they would remove an important
piece of functionality ? I understand the email app wasn't the best in
the world, and I could understand that a software upgrade would have
provided a new totally different one. But to do a software upgrade that
actually removes published functionality, that boggles the mind.
I am in north america (canada). Perhaps the european version of the 6300
still has email ?
Has anyone ever had success downgrading software ? Would it be possible
to obtain an older version of the software that still has the email in it ?
