Thanks - I did the swap, and then also used the online chat at
sprintpcs.com, who was able to answer the specific questions, so as of
now I believe that there is no charge for an ESN swap, the $18 or $36
amount is added only if a new phone is purchased from Sprint.
I won't know for sure until next month's bill, but all signs are that
online ESN swap has no charge.
