Is it normal for the Roaming signal to show on my RAZR V3a when I'm in
a strong Alltel area outside my home area code? My coverage area is
the same as for National Freedom, which includes most of the US. Yet
I noticed the Roaming signal blinking when I visited a friend this
past week end who lives in the same state, but in a different area
code (he also has Alltel).
And if I'm always roaming when I'm outside my own area code, how would
I know whether my phone had locked onto an Alltel signal that would be
included in my minutes or that of another cell company that would add
59¢ per minute?
Thanks for clearing up my confusion.

As long as it's blinking, you're OK. It means you are on the NF
network, just not in your home area. When it is a solid (not
blinking) roam indicator, you could be charged. Calls to 911 would
still be free.

Without knowing your market code or rate plan, none of these questions
are answerable.

Thanks. That answers my questions. But it's surprising the manual
doesn't say anything about blinking vs. solid.
This V3a replaced an old Audiovox CDM-9100 I used for a number of
years, and I'm still trying to get used to it.
Thanks again!

V3a phone alerts should mean the same things no matter what the plan,
but I got my answers, thanks.

Haven't been able to get any help from them for some time now. It
seems the only requirement for an Alltel CS job is to be able to say
"cell phone" in English.
Where are they located? Judging from the accents, my guess would be
Mexico. Maybe upstairs over a bar in Tijuana...

Just make it a point to ask for a native ENGLISH speaker and they will
transfer you to America. I've pulled it many times.....
Another tactic is to ask for "DATA SUPPORT", which is a clone keyword
putting the robot into transfer mode. Once data support answers, ask the
nice man if he can help you with your pyramid problem or apologize for the
wrong number and ask him to transfer you to an AMERICAN tech support who
speaks English as their first language.
If enough wrong numbers come in, maybe someone will notice and rethink the
contracting out nonsense. They DO still have American employees, though
you must now search for them....(c;
It's half the fun of dialing 611....Telephone tag!
(I'm the guy who yelled "BINGO!" playing Buzzword Bingo at the political
speech.)....(c;

I didn't realize that. Thanks for the info.

Actually, Alltel has 19 call centers located in the continental US.
They do outsource the prepaid calls offshore, and a few (less than 5
percent) of contract accounts get routed there if AND ONLY if the
prepay volume is low enough.
