You will not find what you need to hack your phone on the forums or
in this newsgroup in a coherent manner, no matter how beautifully laid
out the instructions look. Everybody leaves something out. I don't
know exactly why, but that is the case with almost any type of
hacking. People lie & mislead & pretend like they know what they are
doing. You can be assured though that the most obnoxious posters in
this forum have no clue. That is why they tell you to Google & search
the forums, without telling you directly how to hack your phone.
It took me a whole night to get through all the B.S. and finally get
into my phone. The first time you do it, there are quite a few steps
that you have to do correctly but after that it is very, very easy.
If you are really serious about learning how, I can walk you through -
and anybody else that is interested - hacking your Verizon phone. A
while back I posted a long detailed explanation but it was too hard to
include everything. It would take me too long to go through all the
steps for everyone because there are a lot of differences and things
to look out for, especially if you have already messed up your
computer by putting MPT on it.

It was easy, here.
1 - Go to Alltel Store
2 - Churn
3 - Copy files using COPY or MOVE commands
Problem solved and no more lies from Verizon Employees!
Calls are STILL free to your Verizon-stuck buddies when you put 'em on your
My Circle list. For what you're paying VZW, you can have thousands of
minutes per month and really unlimited tethered EVDO data!
Sorry if you don't live in Alltel Country.....
That's not my fault....MOVE!

I think that they are genuinely clueless and just parrot what they
have been told to say. I think very few of them have the inclination
to play with their phones or to investigate what they have been told.
Most probably do not even know that they are lying.

Unfortunately I am stuck with Verizon for the next year or so and I
really don't do much tethering. I don't need EVDO just to SSH into
one of my servers -- and Verizon has not caught on yet that I do
infrequently use data.

Since your so smart at this tell me why when I follow the steps from http://www.hacktherazr.com/guides.html the drivers install but still
my system does not recognize the phone? Could it be that Verizon has
changed their software? That seems to be the general answer I am
getting from other sources. So maybe that is why not everyone is able
to give complete answers to the questions being asked. I too have
looked on several sites and still can't find a step by step guide for
getting my Razr to work with my PC. Cellcables, com is the only one who
has said they would be coming out with software to work with my
software version on the phone.
Plus you're kind of rude - I thought the purpose of this group was to
help others, not jerk them around. I guess I could be wrong.

You have to be sure that 1) all remnants of MPT are gone from your
system - if they ever were there and 2) that all four drivers have
loaded and are recognized. Drivers have to do with hardware not
software, so Motorola would have had to change their hardware, not
Verizon change their firmware.
Re the rude people around here --> like I said before, the more rude
they are, it seems like the less they know.
re http://www.hacktherazr.com/guides.html : Offhand, what I see that
is wrong just from reading the first page is that it recommends PST as
the background app. This is dated 08/26/2005 and therefore is
unlikely to work with current hardware. At least it never worked with
any Verizon Motorola phone that I tried. Makes me wonder what else is
wrong on this site -- and why.

Could be, so change it. If you did the reading and understood it, you
know how but, somehow I really doubt that you are able to do so.

You've been helped, your question has been answered more than once but
rather than figure out what you're doing wrong and fix it (YES, YOU
*DO* HAVE THE ANSWERS YOU NEED), you prefer to come here, whine about
your problems and criticize the help others have given you as being
insufficient.
I have little patience with ignorant idiots, I hope that explains the
rudeness you so cleverly detected?
Back into my kill file with you, I should have known a Google Grouper
was beyond any help....

It works perfectly with current hardware.

Any yet you're the one who accuses others of not knowing?

Nothing, the directions will work and have worked for me and for
others, just not for you and the Google Grouper.
MSU works only with very limited software and hardware. If you're
running a current 64 bit computer and a current 64 bit OS, MSU will not
install, PST does install and does work exactly as claimed.

That's strange. I looked closer at the hacktherazr site and found
that the software that they wanted you to use: http://www.hacktherazr.com/app/hackt...-Installer.zip
was just their zipped version of Motorola_Software_Update. So, if the
MSU that you get directly from Motorola is not 64-bit O.S. compliant,
neither would be the software from hacktherazr as they are identical.
P.S. For those who may be having problems with the software & driver
install --> make sure that the USB port you are plugging into is ver
2.0. It may not work otherwise.
P.P.S. If all drivers do not install automatically, you need to
unpack the actual MSU and install them directly.

Correct, thus the necessity of using PST. I have an old obsolete
laptop with an old obsolete version of Windows XP and tried using MSU,
honestly, on both XP and Vista 64, PST works better for me.

Also, I haven't tried this but I've been told you can't use a hub, the
phone must be connected directly to one of the PC's USB ports.
