Default V551 60 second find me is 2 seconds

When I click "Find Me" a screen appears that says "Discoverable: 60
seconds". That screen changes back to the "Find Me" option in about 2
seconds. Too brief to be found by my new laptop. The phone's Bluetooth
does work, because it "found" a Bluetooth ear piece yesterday, and continues
to be able to talk to my old laptop that "found it" a few months ago.
What's going on? Has my V551 gone bad? Can it be fixed?

Have you tried putting the laptop in the "search" mode first, then put the
551 into the "find me" mode while the laptop is searching?

I don't know about the V551, but the Motorola Z6m has got to be the
dumbest Bluetooth device on the planet. It is incapable of connecting
to more than ONE device at a time.

I suspect your V551 is also so stupid, probably on purpose from a
carrier's specifications.

Try "turning off" any connection that uses the same PROFILE, then try
the find me on the new device. If you already have a laptop defined and
stored in the phone, shut it down and try to pair with the new laptop.
You may find you can "turn off" a pairing BEFORE trying to pair to a new
device under the same profile.

Case in point. I have a Gateway laptop with a bluetooth dongle I can
pair with the stupid Z6m under DUN to connect the laptop to the internet
over Alltel EVDO. I also have a Nokia N800 Linux internet tablet that
bluetooth pairs with the phone's DUN profile so it can use the phone.

If the phone THINKS it SHOULD be pairing with the little Linux tablet,
it simply refuses to look for the notebook's Bluetooth calling it, ad
nauseum, when ONLY the notebook is on the air. The stupid Motophone is
listening ONLY for the Linux tablet. If I shut down the automatic
connection to the Linux tablet's setup in "Device History", and make it
manual, this seems to release the phone to look for other devices, allow
it to pair with them, and pair with them. If I set it up to pair with
the noteobook AUTOMATICally, it then refuses to pair with the Linux
tablet.....

DUMB....really Stupid....Someone should be SHOT!

My Motorola S9 headset isn't so stupid, probably because it's not a
"source" device like the phone and tablet are. IF the Linux tablet (or
notebook for that matter) are ALREADY connected to the BT DUN link on
the phone, the phone will NOT pair with the handsfree profile on the
Motorola S9 stereo headsets. It will NOT pair with the A2DP stereo
audio in the headset, either. IF I connect to the S9 FIRST, the stupid
phone will NOT respond to any connections from either the Linux tablet
or my notebook's BT dongle. ONE DEVICE AT A TIME, no matter what KIND
of device it is. FIRST COME, FIRST CONNECTED, ignoring all others.

DUMB....really Stupid....Someone should be SHOT!

So, in your case, the phone THINKS it's supposed to be DUN pairing with
the "old laptop" already in its connection list. You come along and
confound it by trying to make it connect to ANOTHER new laptop. As long
as the automatic pairing is listening for the old laptop's call...it
ain't gonna happen. IF you ALREADY have the phone paired with the BT
handsfree headset or a Stereo A2DP headset....it won't connect to either
DUN machine, ignoring them, completely. It's busy with the headset.

It isn't a Bluetooth issue. The Nokia N800 Linux tablet will hook to
multiple devices, simultaneously, with no conflicts....go figure.
