Adding Motion Capability to the Spatial Channel Model

The current definition of the spatial channel model (SCM), presents all the components needed to represent the spatial behavior of the propagation channel for a given mobile. These components are used to generate the complex channel samples that evolve with time, but the position of the mobile remains constant, this is known as quasi motion simulation. As the SCM proposes an independent set of channel parameters (powers, delays, angles of departure, and angles of arrival) per mobile, the current model is spatially incoherent, that is, two spatial positions having a small Euclidean distance have widely different channel parameters. This paper proposes a method to introduce spatial coherence to SCM to make it suitable for full-motion simulations. At the same time, the model is well suited for the evaluation of multi-antenna schemes like Space Division Multiple Access (SDMA) where modeling of off-beam interference is important. Also, the introduction of spatial coherence does not affect the extension of SCM for wider bandwidths.
