N800 and VoipDiscount

I have just flashed my Nokia N800 to OS2008. The new communication software
allows you to set up s SIP profile so you can dialout using VOIP.

I cannot get it to work with my VoipDiscount account. It trys to dialout but
then says it can't connect.

I installed the RTComm software on it when it had the 2007 OS and this
worked fine. I believe the software in the 2008 OS is based on the RTComm
one.

Any suggestions

Really I cant be of any help, but can I ask tyou a couple of questions

I'm getting the N800 for Christmas, Would you tell me where I could get the
new OS2008. And apart from your problem, was it worth the update? Does the
2008 update also include the performance update, that you could use on
OS2007?

And do you know if Vonage would work with it?

For the update - yes it is worth it. The unit is faster and the interface is
slicker - I would very much recommend upgrading.

This is a known problem and is it due to the codecs VoipDiscount (and other
similar SIP service providers) use.

First you have to make sure the package gainroot is installed - Google for
if if you don't have it.
Start up XTerm (it is installed by default on the 2008 OS)
Then type the following

sudo gainroot
cd /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10
mv libgstdspilbc.so libgstdspilbc.so.off

Then reboot

It worked for me!
