dead chinese 7630 phones : fun geeting them working.
Bought 2 x 7630 phones for my daughters in Shanghai: bargain at about $180
each last April. New phones though they sold with pirate batteries.
One died several months on return to Australia several months after
putting in Australian sim card .
Took it to Nokia care centre and after some argument about missing
"international warranty" papers fixed it simply by installing Australian
software.
Other daughter's phone went dead some months after that but this time
different technician at same service centre refused to fix it stating risks
of upgrading software could "kill " phone: flatly refused to fix it and
offered to sell me a new /refurbished phone for $600 !
Returned to different staff member and demanded to see " team leader"
Pointed again out they weren't do risk adverse when they fixed the first
phone so they grudgingly did so ; phone now works fine.
Interestingly: they reckon "international" warranty on Nokia phones does
not include warranty replacement! If its dead its dead. Hasta la vista
phone: we won;t replace or event attempt to fix an international phone!.
Moral :
Keep the international warranty papers
Don't take bs from service centre.
