5110 for use in car

Hi experts,

my new used car's built-in hands free set says it's made "for nokia
6310i only". I'm not willling to raise the funds needed for this one
primarily because I don't like its look. A 5110 is significantly
cheaper, looks better (for me) and uses the same connectors. They work
for loading the phone's battery(?) but do not transport any sound. If
I call somebody, neither do I hear him nor does he understand me. Same
if I get called.
Can I get the 5110 to work in my car like a 6310i?

I bought my carkit a long time ago for a nokia 6110, used it for 5110's
aswell, after a while switched to a 6210 and now using a 6310i. Still no
problems.

The carkit should be working, maybe the contacts are dirty/bent.

Just maybe that "used car's built-in hands free set says it's made "for
nokia 6310i only" has a bearing on the problem. Perhaps a HFCK for a
different model may be upwardly compatible but not the reverse situation?

Just my little thoughts.
