Default 6260 lost memory

Took the phone into Nokia for repair in Thailand. When returned they
had done a few things including updating software and almost all of the
contact info was lost.

The only info retained was the mobile number and 1st 10 characters of
the name. Addresses, other phone numbers, and other info was all lost --
leaving me lost in Thailand!!

Could this be what occurs when software is updated? And if they saved
data to the sims?

Seems that they copied the names to the (a) sim card and then copied it
back, losing all other information.

No, if you update the software ALL data is lost.

>And if they saved data to the sims?

That's probably what they did: a simcard can only hold names and numbers.
The length of the names depend on the simcard.

Thanks, your last remark is apparently what has occurred twice.

The solution should be to back up the data to the computer using a cable
and the Nokia software, then reinstall from the backup; however, that
software for some strange reason will not install onto my computer. No
one around here knows why, and Nokia USA doesn't know anything because
they don't sell the 6260. (Tried install unsuccessfully several times
over a year.)

Perhaps I need to attempt install on someone else's computer the next
time I'm traveling -- and perhaps even the try the same here at home.

After having lost all mailing addresses, etc., for two months, at this
stage am ready to give up on Nokia and the next phone will be a
different brand.
