Nokia 93 video editing problems

Has anyone had problems editing N93 MP4 clips? I have installed Adobe
Premier Elements 3.0 and it needs to render the clip before you can
edit it and this generates an error. The clip will play in Quicktime
though.

Any ideas?

Hi there.

When I read about the n93 and the video format it uses, I knew that anyone
wanting to do a decent edit of large clips (or small) will need a good
computer with good processor and good memory.

Then again, when I first read about it, dual core wasn't much available
until now.

My old software that I used was Elements 2.0 , along with a P4 3.2 HT, 3gig
mem. I still had to wait for rendering before I even started. I never
received any error code though. To cut down waiting time of the rendering,
I converted the clips first using Xilisoft to whatever format I wanted and
uploaded it to elements. It saved me a lot of time, then again, I was
editing large clips. longest clip was almost 35mins.

You can find plenty of converting software on the net. Just make sure that
the resolution matches the n93 mp4 format. Don't over size it as it starts
to get blurry and use 2.0 stereo, anything higher and audios will sound
awful

I can't comment on the error code. The most common thing is, it could be a
codec problem but if your able to view it in QuickTime then you should have
a suitable codec or you need to free up memory. When you render the clip,
its like making a backup copy of the original, so now you have two and to
allow you to view/edit in real-time. When this happens, a lot of memory is
used. Twice over for visual and auido AND the running of Elements 3.0 uses
a lot of memory too.

I have known a few photo/video editing programs to shut down when out of
memory.

Of course, the two might not be of any concern but you never know until you
find out.

Convert your clips the upload to elements and see how you get on. ( I find
mpeg 1-2 or wmv fast )

I have upgraded my computer and software now and even though the mp4 still
needs rendering, its lot less waiting time. Only about a minute or so now
for a 30min clip.

Thanks for the advice!

I'm using a laptop equiupped with an AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-52 (1.6GHz,
dual core, 2x 512MB cache) with 2GB RAM. It ought to be up to the job.
The laptop (HP Pavilion tx1030ea tablet PC) is running Vista Home
Premium; maybe that could be the culprit?

I have been advised by someone else to try QuickTime Pro instead. What
do you think?

Your tablet pc has a high enough spec to do video edits. I cannot tell you
if its Vista that's causing the problems. I haven't upgraded to Vista. If
its anything like XP and am sure its going to be. There's going be lots of
bugs and I bet sooner or later there's going to be service packs out soon
for it. Am going to wait a few months down the line before upgrading.

As you've said before, you can view your files in QuickTime so I cannot see
why you cant use QuickTime pro. There tech specs states it inputs and
outputs mpeg4.

I haven't used QuickTime pro for years. Reason why? I found the software
limited, that's why I use Premiere. Am sure you'll see the editing tools
difference between them.

If QuickTime pro offers a tial period then try it out. It could be just
what your looking for.
