into a bucket of soapy water, I took it home and swopped the sim to another
old phone it worked ok, I left the phone on a shelf above a radiator for a
week, to my amazment when I put it back together it worked, all apart from
the bluetooth, I tried this everyday for about a week suddnly this started
working again, Fantastic!! anyone else with a similar story?

You may well be very lucky, but it may not last as there is a
possibility of corrosion setting in over time.

Perhaps. The OP is pointing out to his surprise that his phone
worked at ALL! I got similar stories with phones from Nokia. a Nokia
6010 that fell down 3 fights of stairs and lived. a Nokia 6340I that
has been dropped in snow and slush and continued to work etc... etc...
Now he was cleaning windows. It is possible that it may even HELP the
phone clean up its own guts too. Of course your mileage may vary.

I had a crystel case on my N95. Dropped the phone from my locker at work
onto a hard floor, only 2 meters high (its at the top!) but a heavy
phone... hard floor...

the case cracked, battery cover flew out.... but not a scratch on it!
The case did its job thankfully.

My old MDA Vario wasn't so good, I dropped it about 12 inches on carpet
and the battry clip snapped.

Last summer I made a trip on motorbike from home to Pyrenees (Spain) and in
half of first day I was surprised by a fast and very wet storm in middle
Catalonia. In that moment, my 6630 was in a pocket of my Cordura summer
jacket, a very fresh fabric grid, since last call few hours before, but I
could remember this under the heavy rain, I thought it was in the
over-fuel-tank bag protected and dry. As I could stop in a gas station I
took the phone totally soaked from the pocket: screen light didn´t work and
SIM not recognised, but all the other functions was OK, including keyboard
leds, although it was very difficult to work it without light, ironically,
the RS-MMC card didn´t fail in spite of its external slot, the TomTom and
other features were present. And it was the first of five days trip!! Could
get some drying paper and provide some first aid to the phone but it still
the same. I´d to change my itinerary an enter in Barcelona city to look for
a Vodafone service center and to find any solution to continue on road with
mobile cell service. While I was waiting other customers to be attended,
ooops! the screen lighted twice! and in my turn we tried to change SIM to
other cell and it worked well, so we knew the damage was in the SIM reader.
A couple of attempts later we saw that the 6630 was half dead but meanwhile
the screen light back to light normally. After this, the shop girl gave me
my phone without any hope of repair or change it at low cost, and two
seconds later the SIM started working again!!!! She has magic in their
hands! I had to repress of kissing her :-)))
Out on the street again I could call my wife without any problem and the
rest of the trip all worked OK :-)

Two months later the memory card reading started to fail sometimes, I think
it´s due to corrosion in the card slot and it would have to be easy fix it,
but meanwhile I´d received my voda´ branded new HTC Touch and I´m not
worried about repair it ASAP :-)

Regards

I gone out to smoke a cigarette and think what to do, to buy a new free or
what,
