Good question!
I don't think that it is necessary nowadays, (not as much as it would have
been, say 5-10yrs ago). Though I think it's still a good idea to do it now
and again, say once a month just to keep the battery in good condition,
especially if you do charge before the battery is less than 1/3 drained.
