Nokia 9500 Indicators

I'm sure there is an obvious answer to this but I can't find it in the
manual (not on pages 16 as suggested by the index) or the web. What does
a 'W' mean when present in the indicators area of the Desk top... and
does it increase the battery discharge rate?
