Default nokia 6681 display shows 3G when no signal

I have a Nokia 6681. When ever the signal is lost, the antenna symbol
from the left-top corner of display vanishes and "3G" is displayed. I
know that 6681 does not support 3G. So why 3G is displayed?

Thanking you in advance.
Murphy

Strange, I wonder if the 6681 is internally the same as the 6680 apart
from front camera? Would be interesting if it could be re-flashed as a
Nokia 6680 using Nemesis and Nokia Software Updater.

in recent times I've used 6680, E70 and N73. All 3 do this, i.e. '3G'
is displayed instead of 'no signal' so i guess it's a S60 'feature'.

No, The 6680, E70 and N73 are all 3G phones! The 6681 is listed on
Nokia's website as a GSM only phone.

Nokia 3G phones when in dual mode will alternate between the antenna and
3G symbols when there is no network coverage. This is because it is
searching between GSM and UMTS bands for a network it can latch on to.
