I'm ready to buy a new phone and I'm eligible for the rebate.
If I buy it at Radio Shack is it a mail-in rebate or instant rebate?
What if I buy it on line or at a sprint store - mail in or instant?
Can I still get a rebate if I stick with my same plan and buy it on a
non-sprint website?

My contract just ended a week ago, and I've moved since I signed the last
contract, to a different area code. I'm getting the black Katana and a new
local number. So here's *my* situation. (you be the judge)
Since I want a new number and a new phone, and the Katana retails at
$279.99 discounted $240.00 with a new contract, and I get to transfer my
current plan to the Katana for the same monthly fee. The cost of the phone
will be $39.99.
Since I'm eligible for the $150 "new phone upgrade", the Katana will cost
me $129.99 if I kept my current number. No rebate since I would use my
upgrade option.
These costs are up front, not included in the next monthly bill.
Overall, if you do this over the phone with a Sprint CSR, and you've been a
"loyal customer" for several years, ALWAYS ask if they can include some
*incentive* if you went with a new plan and possibly a new number (if you
wish) Myself, I got a $52 "loyality" reward credited to my account, the
Sprint CSR took care of the mail-in rebate as part of signing a new
contract, (the phone is now free) the $12 shipping cost is non existant (to
have the Katana shipped right to my doorstep) AND...getting back to the
mail in rebate...it's for $80. Now, if I do my math right, that's an
additional $40.01 that they're paying me to go through with this plan.
I'm aware that it'll cost me, over the 2 year plan, more than the extra $40
that was credited to me, but forty bucks is still forty bucks!
So, if you're willing to take on a new number, you'll look like a new
customer and get some good discounts with a new plan. As far as buying it
at a non-Sprint site, BEWARE! You may get a good deal and you may not.
Rebate or not. You'll save more shopping online at Sprint OR by calling
Customer Service and starting a new plan. I've found that shopping at the
little kiosk booths at the mall or around town, can't give the same deals
that the Sprint Customer Service Rep can, compared to somewhere else.
Either shop at Sprint.com or call them. That's where the deals are.

Check out this little site I found online www.sprint.all.at I see
lots of great deals. Depending on the phone that you would
want I see some that even pay you upto $60 cash back.

You are one heck of Sprint Loyality. Here, I have more problem with
Sprint than any company since I came to America nearly 40 years ago.
- No $52 Loyality (yet) but over a year of overcharged of few services (not
one but few) I several times asked them to remove. But I guess because I
have 5 lines so they missed one now and then (but I asked 3-4 times each)
- I upgraded my phone they renewed my 2-yrs contrast but no $100
mail-in-rebate. After 3 months, I asked and they refused to fix their
problem saying no record (I don't know how they renewed my contrast without
record of newer phone with rebate) until I faxed them the proof (lucky that
I kept it).
Then they sent $49 instead of $100, and I had to call them again (several
times to get talk to right person) for another $50
Is there any way to phones or rebates like these without signing up for a
new plan?
I've been on a month to month since our contract expired about two years
ago, and we pay less than the current lowest plan and we have more minutes.
I'm not really interested in any new plan, but maybe a new phone.
Anyone have experience with cell phones from ebay?
Once I read hear about asking in the store for a 'returned' phone?
Thanks, just thought I'd ask.

Not that I'm aware of. (unless I've been asleep for WAY too long)
See, this is their "hook" to reel you in. They'll offer you a hot new
phone for next to nothing if they can lock you into a new contract.
This kind of business is called "positive cash flow", for 1 or 2 years.
This is how I got my Katana for free. I wanted to get a new phone
anyways, AND I wanted to change to a local number. It was a win-win-win
situation for me. Read my earlier post to see what I got.
Now, about finding a new phone on E-bay or whatnot. Sure, you could get
the deal of a lifetime there, and you may not. *Do your homework* Shop
around and never buy the first deal you find. Bookmark that page
because you know that somewhere out there on the internet, someone has a
better deal. It's just a matter of finding it. Since you couldn't find
that better deal, go back to your bookmark and buy there.
But it looks like that you'll have to pony up for the full price if you
want a new phone through Sprint. You'll get to keep the same plan
without signing a new contract. But don't let the Sprint CSR tell you
that you can't keep the same plan as you have now. Think about it...if
your old plan is obsolete, then why have they let you keep it for two
years? They tried pulling this on me. Since they don't have the 300
anytime Fair & Flexible plan anymore, they wanted me to upgrade to the
450 minute F&F plan, for $10 more per month! But here's where I turned
the tables on them...since my 2 year contract was up, I'll just go with
Cingular and sign a new plan. Suddenly, the CSR put me on hold to "talk
to the supervisor" and then came back and told me that it's possible to
do the 300 anytime minutes on my new phone. I win again! You just have
to keep bending their arms to get what you want. Be forceful, but not
rude. You'll be surprised what you can get.
If you DO find a new phone with a rebate online, you may have to take
that soon because those deals usually don't last long.
By the way, it never hurts to ask if there's "refurbished" phones either
at your local store or through the company. But remember, those phones
once had a problem, and they may break again. Usually, those phones get
repaired and sent back to the company for an exact replacement of what
was turned in for repair. You never know, you might get lucky there.
I wish you luck in your search, and sorry for the long post.
i got mine free helps to work for the AFSCME union:)
