Default $3+4=necessary?

Greetings,

I have a Treo 700P, and my wife has a 650. We're paying $7/month for
equipment protection on each phone. It shows on our monthly bill as
"Equip Prot $3 Ins Premium & $4 Serv/Rpr."

In November, my 700P survived complete immersion in the duck pond at a
school carnival - it was in the water for less than 5 seconds, I
pulled the battery and SD card and monopolized the hand dryer in the
bathroom for the next 15 minutes. But I'm the clumsy sort even on the
best of days, and the phone shows serious wear - scratches, nicks,
cracks in the plastic - even though it's 100% functional.

My wife's phone is perfectly fine because she's immensely more
graceful, not to mention careful with her possessions, than I.

Do we need both parts ($3+4) of our current protection plans?

What's the least expensive option for replacing my 700P?

Best regards,

Tim ==

you will probably find as I did with another carrier that immersing in water is not covered damage for insurance replacement.

their policy was one of those described as stepped on by an elephant at 12:01AM on Feb 29.

Um, I don't think that's really true. The Equipment Replacement Program
from Sprint, unless the terms have changed significantly, DOES pay for
loss or damage.

Warranty coverage does NOT cover loss or damage. Insurance DOES.

agreed, but check carefully and you will most likely find that water immersion is not considered damage.

No, he won't find that to be the case. If he has Sprint's Total
Equipment Protection, damage due to water exposure/immersion is covered.

If you want to see for yourself, look at the coverage certificate:

http://www.sprintpcs.com/common/pdfs...entProgram.pdf

And note the part that states in nice big bold letters:

"Incidents covered:
- Loss, theft or physical damage.
- Water (or liquid) damage and resulting corrosion.
- Fire or lightning damage."

Just because another wireless company didn't cover water damage in their
insurance policy, that does not mean that all wireless carriers will
refuse to do so. Please don't make such generalizations, and know what
you're talking about before you spew misinformation.
