Default HANDLER NEEDED error message

I get this error with 3 different phones using two different phone numbers
and
both the Sprint Classic and Nextel Hybrid services. Sprint "Advanced
Technical Support" told me to email "the IT department" while Nextel just
said "third party web sites (anything not owned by Sprint/Nextel) are not
supported". I tried to explain that the web service wasn't very useful if
all I could expect to work was the web site(s) Sprint/Nextel owned. I
guess they don't understand that 99.9999999..% of the web isn't owned
by Sprint.

Anybody else seen this message? Any fixes out there?

Were you doing anything specific when you saw the errors? Web
browsing, for example? If so, which sites caused the errors, and what
kind of activity was occurring at the time? I'm asking because Sprint
Classic and Nextel Hybrid don't mean anything to me. Which 3 phones
were used?

That sounds right. Sprint has nothing to do with the general Internet.

They aren't telling you that's all you can expect. They're telling you
that's all they support.

No, they understand that but apparently weren't able to help you
understand the difference between [your] expectations and [their]
support.

More information would be helpful.

In my experience, it has been when a 'plug-in' or ActiveX component was
needed. The browser on phones does not support that.

Accessing a secure (https), password-protected web-based (hdml - yes
I mean "d", not "t") Workforce Management application using either
a Samsung A940 or Toshiba VM4050 on the fully deployed non-EVDO
Sprint network (hence "Classic") or a Motorola ic502 on the Nextel
network for voice and the Sprint non-EVDO infrastructure for data
(Hybrid is what Nextel calls this) in the western suburbs of Chicago.
The WM app is provided by CSG Systems and used by the cable
industry to link field techs to in-house CRM systems. The initial
URL is https://technet.csgsystems.com/chi2/tn/tn.html.

Except that they hold themselves out as the leader in providing mobile
access to it.
http://www.sprintahead.com/?id12=UHP...head_LearnMore
specifically claims "now you can instantly beam work, .... right to the palm
of your hand". While it is just a commercial, to me "can" is a bit
stronger than "might be able to". Maybe in the print version of the
ads they will have a full page of small print (like the prescription
medication ads) where the lawyers CYA.

As a customer I expect fair value for my dollar. In my experience
most businesses make a good-faith effort to support their products
and services in the real world. I wouldn't buy another car from a
manufacturer that dismissed a driveability problem by telling me that
all paved surfaces other than the dealer's lot were provided by third
parties and they don't support driving on them.

Any concrete suggestions? Any more questions?

The phones in question don't run Windows and the web site I'm going to
is specifically designed for mobile phones, so ActiveX is right out as is
a plug-in on the scale of Adobe Flash Player or PDF viewer. The Motorola
ic502 supports Java ME, WAP, and WML so I'm tempted to think
the problem is somewhere in that space. While the MOTODEV web site
provides detailed information on the APIs for most of their phones, they
simply point to the Sprint Developer site for the ic502. So far that part
of Sprint has been equally unhelpful, in sharp contrast to Motorola.

Is there a non-HDML version of the site that you can try to access?
What about accessing the site with a laptop?

On the surface, the problem seems to be with one site. Have you tried
contacting that site, or using the Help function at the URL you
provided above, to see if they have any recommendations?

Sure, you CAN, if the site and its contents are compatible with your
device. No business that provides access to the Internet guarantees
that every site will be accessible to every device.

Another car analogy? :( Ok, then, if you buy a car and later you find
a road that's closed or has a big pot hole, do you go back to the
dealer? The dealer made no guarantees that the car you bought would
drive on every part of every road. There are just too many roads, and
too many variables, out there to make such a claim.

I would start by contacting the site that's causing the problem.
