Default Cost of tethering without PAM

I have been paying the $40/mo for the Power Vision Attachable Plan (PAM).
What would be the cost per kb doing so without the plan?
I know there is an entire discussion about tethering without paying, but I
want to know how much data i can move back and forth IF I was going to get
charged to meet the break even point of paying $40 per month.

thanks

I asked Sprint about this. If you have no PAM plan, tethering does not
work at all. You cannot connect. Error 67, etc.

There is no Pay-As-You-Go Tethering. Sprint doesn't trust us to control
our usage.

Oh well.

Aaah, well - I usually only get 1 connection via my MBP and Treo 700p
(using Bluetooth) before I need to reboot both laptop and phone. I am
thinking it probably isn't worth even $20 a month. If the web site
lets me cancel it, I probably will next month.

If you were able to get a connection, the cost of the data would be .
03 per kilobyte.
Translated out that would give you about 1,333.33333333333333
kilobytes of data for $40.
Or about 1.3 MB. On the whole, for typical PC to web connecting this
is not very much.
If you have a EVDO capable device where your download speeds can get
as high as 700 kb per sec.,
you would be looking at about 2 seconds of download for $40. Granted
the 700kb per sec is top speed,
but even at half that, the $40 per month would seem to be worth it if
you are going to be using your PC
to download anything at all.

It is not very likely however you would be able to get a connectiong
without the PAM feature however,
at least not without some 3rd party software that would fool the
network into thinking you have the PAM
added.

Default Cost of tethering without PAM

Although I recently renewed my contract, I was pretty disappointed that I
couldn't use the PAM option without paying $40/mo.

I had the old vision plan and I very rarely used the phone as a modem, maybe
once or twice a year. But it was handy when I did use it. Of course,
paying $40/mo would have been ridiculous for the new plan as little as I
used the PAM.

But overall, I've been satisfied with Sprint so I went ahead and renewed my
contract.

Not to quibble, but that's 700 kiloBITS per second, which would be
closer to 70 kiloBYTES per second -- more like 20 seconds at top burst
speed.

I stand corrected, I had misread the documentation. It is indeed
kilobits per second not kilobytes.
Thanks for the feedback.

With my data card I can go through 50+ meg in one sitting, that's just
browsing my usual web sites.

This depends greatly on the phone -- there are plenty where tehering works
just fine without a PAM plan (but as the O.P. is aware, this is violating the
terms of service).
