Is this on the phone itself or when tethering? Normally every T-Mo
customer gets limited free WAP access so they Can check account
balances and buy ringtones on their handset, even without a data plan.
You should be able to hit "wap.myvoicestream.com" from any phone or
tethered PC if your phone is configured correctly.
The "secret" to the free usage is to disable the T-Zones proxy. This
is easy on a higher-end phone with a better web browser like my MDA,
but not as easy on the lower-end phones- I can't seem get it on my
prepaid Nokia 3120, but can if I put the same SIM into my 3650, with
has more data configuration options.

Unlike Cingular, for example, T-Mo no longer offers any metered plans-
so there currently isn't a per/KB rate to charge you. Playing on the
prepaid phones hasn't reduced my account balances, and on my post-paid
line I subscribe to "unlimited T-Zones," the port-crippled $5/month
plan that gives unlimited e-mail and WAP browsing, but blocks other web
usage, like streaming, FTP, VPN, or downloads greater than 1MB.
Currently, however, I can use streaming audio, FTP, and download any
size file I want, just like a $20/month "full" internet customer.
In fact, I'm posting this from my MDA now over T-Mo, and normally NNTP
port 119 (usenet) is blocked on T-Zones (only POP, SMTP, and IMAP e-
mail ports, and WAP ports are open.)
