Default voicemail weirdness

we got a motorola v3r or v3_305 (r4515)which probably originated in europe
and we are using it in california on a prepaid t-mobile account.
the phone case has a t-mobile imprint on it.

if we dial 1 or 123 we get a german language voicemail menu.
we have to dial our own phone number to get into english language voicemail.

anyone understand what's happening and how to change the german voicemail to
english.

thanks

Your phone probably has the access number for the voicemail
system in Germany pre-programmed into it. Just so you know, you're
probably dialing and being billed for an international call every time
you hit that German voicemail system. Better check your bill for the
big surprise.
