Default Spam in text messaging

A few months ago my wife had a couple of spam messages on her phone, seeing
we have to pay for incoming messages I complained to T-mobile and they gave
us credit. They also said to reply to the message with the word "stop" and
they should take us off their list. The phone replies didn't work for some
reason just came up with an error. I did notify the FTC via spam@uce.gov as
I've been doing with spam received on my computer's email. My wife doesn't
use text messaging so I asked if there was anyway to disable it, they said
no, they needed it to send us account related messages.

Last Friday I had a spam message on my phone and complained again. Again
sending "stop" didn't work. I asked them if they did any spam blocking,
they said I could goto the web site and put in a block by keying in
information from the message. They gave me credit and I notified the FTC.

Received messages used to be free but since they started charging I've been
getting upset. I think we ought to have the option of disabling text
messaging completely or being able to turn it on only when we need it. They
could have better filtering we could enable if we want ie blocking message
sent via the bcc field.

Just wondering what your thoughts were on the subject?

I had the same problem, except I raised a bit more hell with them.
I got the same response about blocking them and he said that there was alot
of parents that felt the same way.
Think how much money they make from people that don't look at their bill or
the time to dispute the charge.
He did tell me that he would credit my account for 25 free txt messages.
Funny thing is, I haven't had another since. Coincidence?

Twice I have received a recorded message for mortgage loans. It comes once
a month. I will post the number the next time I receive it along with any
other pertinent information.

Maybe you should register your cell number with the National Do Not Call
Registry https://www.donotcall.gov/default.aspx if your getting voice type
recordings. I registered both our cell phones as well as our land line
phone.

I'm not sure if that covers txt messages, though. Probably some loophole.

Unnecessary, there are already laws against telemarketing to cell
phones.

Worse, there are people who grab the do-not-call list and use it as a
dialing list (usually calling from outside the country, or an exempted
group), so you may actually get more calls by getting a cell phone
listed.

I registered our cellphones in 5/2005 and have yet to receive a
telemarketing call. Where are the laws documented and where can we report
abuse?

I have never received an unsolicited sales call on a cell phone.
Either before the Do-Not-Call list or since and I have registered all
of my phones on it. My personal experience with that list is
outstanding.

Now if the government would make themselves and their damn political
calls subject to the law also I would be even happier!

Default Spam in text messaging

I use text messaging by having a program (Identafone) that forwards the
caller ID of anyone that calls the house to my cellphone via e-mail from my
PC. I found it wasn't working after complaining about the Spam problem I
called support and we went to the My-Tmobile.com website and checked the
filters they applied for the spam and found there is an option to block all
e-mail sent to the phone and it was set. Reset it and now Identafone works
again.
