Default would t-mobile unlock a phone if...

If you buy a tmobile to-go phone, tmobile would help you unlock the phone
after you use it for a while.

What if I buy one of those phone (e.g. a V195), and instead of using the sim
card that comes with it, I use my current sim card (also a tmobile to-go sim
card), would t-mobile still help me unlock the phone?

Of course. You can get one unlock code each 90 days for each T-Mobile
account. You could put my SIM in your phone - and get an unlock code
against my account. In 90 days, I could do it again.
Regards

If you've been a customer in good standing for 90 days, even pre-paid,
they'll unlock your phone.

I had my V195 unlocked; I bought the quad-band V195 specifically for use
while vacationing in Europe. The fact that it was cheap was a bonus :-)

It doesn't matter which SIM you're using, so long as your account is
active.

To get the ball rolling, go to

http://support.t-mobile.com/caseSubmitForm.html

Select "Phones & Accessories" and "How To's" and tell them what you
want to do. When I contacted them, I got it all done overnight.
