Default Difference between Promo Plus and Mas 1500 plans?

Hi all,

A promo plan is now appearing on the T-Mo plans web page, and it seems to me
the features with the Promo plan and the Individual Max 1500 are the same.
Anybody else look into these plans lately, and are they the same, except the
promo saves you $10 a month or am I missing something?

1.) Limited Time Offer
Individual Promo Plus 1500 Whenever minutes Unlimited Nights/Weekends
$49.99

2.) Individual Max 1500 Whenever minutes Unlimited Nights/Weekends $59.99

Presently I have a 3000 minute Regional Plan (Cleveland) with on long
distance or free calling outside of OH and PA. I understand the other plans
will add LD, but I'll lose 1500 minutes, but gain nights and weekends.
Lately I been using around 1500 minutes a month. I also have the $5.99 a
month T-Zones plan and want to keep that.

Also anyone have the Hot Spot @ Home plan? How do you like it? I can't find
much info on it, and I know you need a special phone, and they recommend
their router (but I already have a wireless router). Can't find a price for
the service, only the phones. Thanks much,

Dan

The advantage of using their wireless router
is it has "quality of service" pre-emption
built in. This prioritizes the _phone_'s
use of the internet feed.

In other words, with a standard 802.11 router
all the traffic gets equal priority, meeaning
that if you're using the phone and half a dozen
people start pulling down the latest movies
through the base, your voice connection will
get messed up.

With the t-mobile router, your phone keeps
the bandwidth and the other folk get slowed down.

(yes, you can do this yourself with some of the
more featured consumer 802.11/routers, but it'll
take some doing).

There are two price plans:

a: _no_ extra charge. This lets you use your
new dual-capable phone at an 802.11 access point
(either your own, or a public one, or... all
the StarBucks and some others that t-mobile
has set up). However, you _use up_ your
bucket of minutes when talking.

Why would you want this? Many times you've
got an area with bad cellular service but
with 802.11 access - for example, your basement.

Or... you can use this overseas and call back
to the US at your basic minute rate - and "look
like" you're in teh country.

b: for $10 or maybe $20 extra/month (It was $10
when they introduced this option, but they said
it would go up to $20. I don't know if they've
done so yet). This gives you _unlimited_ timing
when you're coming through an 802.11 base.

This is handy if you've got 802.11 at home and work,
giving you a big boost in usable time...

The more expensive plan includes free nights & weekends. The cheaper plan
doesn't have nights & weekends. I went with the $49.99 plan.

Default Difference between Promo Plus and Mas 1500 plans?

Hi Ben,

According to their plan page:
http://www.t-mobile.com/shop/plans/
Both plans have unlimited nights and weekends. There has to be something
else I'm overlooking?

Thanks.

Dan

Thanks,

I'll check into this. I have no one else on my network so I don't have to
worry about someone else hogging up the bandwidth, but I tend to download a
lot of stuff myself, so I'll have to see if I can configure my present
router, if not, go with theirs. I'll see if the other available plans cover
me, but this Hot Spot @ Home looks like an interesting option. Do you
actually have this, if so does it work well? Thanks again,

Dan

The other advantage to theirs is that it supposedly uses less battery life
on the phone. From my (limited) understanding of how it works, typical
WiFi routers and devices continually ping each other to ensure the other is
still connected, but the T-Mo router and phone have a special connection
mode that talk to each other far less often when not in an active call,
reducing the phone's power usage when idle. I'm not sure how much this is
worth in dollars, but T-Mo was giving the routers for free after rebate, at
least last time I checked.

I haven't used it yet- I'm too addicted to my Windows Mobile phone to be
enticed by the current phones T-Mo offers for H@H. Rumors at
HowardForums.com say we might see an H@H WinMo model by spring. If so,
I'll jump on it.

Default Difference between Promo Plus and Mas 1500 plans?

Hi Ben,

I'm trying to compare the $49 Promo plan against the $59 regular plan, I
don't see what the differences are. Yes, the $39 plan doesn't have free
nights/weekends, so I'm not considering that one, but the other two do.

Thanks,

Dan

My guess is that the $49 plan is a promotional limited-time offer. That
generally means it requires a two-year contract, whereas a regular plan
doesn't.
