how is it that you are privy to how many units apple shipped to each
store?

apple said they'd sell 10 million by the end of 2008 and they're on
track to meet that goal. that's not too bad for someone with zero
market share just thirteen months ago.

Which massive Apple server system does Apple run that touts Linux
Apache/1.3.29 (Darwin) PHP/4.3.10 as its operating system on Apple's own
webpage core?
The data above was downloaded by Sam Spade straight off the Apple.com
webpage only because I have no valid address for the servers used for
license/purchase checking of 3G FruitFones. www.apple.com runs on a
LINUX server under APACHE 1.3.29 (Darwin)
http://www.apache.org/
Download it yourself from one of these mirrors:
http://www.apache.org/mirrors/
They MIGHT be running Apache on a Windows Server box, I suppose. I was
trying to be optimistic because Apple loves to tell everyone their OS is
Unix.....(c;

it does not tout linux apache at all.
it quite clearly says 'darwin' which is the open source kernel of mac
os x. the hardware are apple xserve rack mount computers, and they're
all running mac os x server.

as stated above, it does not run linux; it runs mac os x server.

apple doesn't allow discounting no matter how many units are in stock...
but apple doesn't allow overstock either so it's not a problem

yes, and apple sold about 1.3 million iphones in the last 72 hours, and
your point?
> Stevies' gonna hafta open up those warehouses and release the product if he

the goal is 1%, and they were at 0.8% when they sold out of iPhone 1.0's
a month ago. so everything is right on target.

Wow! Where does Apple sell servers? I've never seen one. All they have
here are little desktop and laptops.
Is there a URL where one can read about Apple server platforms??

Apache is not related to Linux... every Mac ships with Apache and has
for YEARS...
The problem was too much demand, which a company like MS or BB would die
to have.

any mac can run mac os x server, although apple has rack mount hardware
that's better suited for high demand installations. for home or small
business, a mac mini is often sufficient.
also, the consumer version of os x includes things such as apache and
vpn, they just need to be enabled and configured.

i provided two in the previous post, one of which is included below.
<http://www.apple.com/xserve/>
<http://www.apple.com/server/macosx/>

Not really, because the Windows Mobile OS isn't so locked down that it has
to get permission from the mothership before it's allowed to make a phone
call!
> larry, please THINK before you post.
Maybe Apple should think before they "pre-brick..." They're already
restricting sales to customers signing two-year contracts- for what reason
on God's Green Earth does the phone need to contact Cupertino to receive
permission to OPERATE?
