OK - on Ebay other External Batteries for the iPhone are available,
and typically sell for under $10

I don't have an iphone or Nokia phone, but it seems to me that Apple does
everything it can to front load it's iphone sales, so it looks impressive
for "three days", but somehow overall, I don't think there is any comparison
to the volume of phones sold by Nokia

I reviewed all the posts. You're right. I owe you an apology. So here it is,
as public as was the slight.
Just so you know, there was raging thread on the daily battery life of an
iPhone battery. I believe that's what the OP was referring to though there
was a reference to the phone lasting a year, I don't believe that was
connected to the battery-life issue.

Interesting point.
Apple's been in the cellular phone business for only a couple years and
has had all of TWO products on the market for only a little over a year.
And most of that time they only sold in the US and a select few other
countries.
Nokia's been selling mobile phones and various communications devices
since the mid-1960's. And they sell in about every country in the world.
I can't find exact numbers, but they have to have sold hundreds of
millions of units since then.

Graciously accepted. Thank you. Maybe this newsgroup isn't so bad after all.

That's very true and fantastic for apple, and I hope they sell phones to
more than just the same folks that bought the first models. I just question
you blind fanbois, who have this deranged attitude that the iphone is going
to take over the world and put EVERY other phone maker out of business, when
in fact they sell a niche product, which is attractive to a small percent of
the 11% of cell users that buy smart phones

Nokia sold 115 million phones in the just first three months of 2008.
They sell a billion phones in less than 3 years these days.
Of course the bulk of what they sell is not in the same class as
the iPhone (measured by parts cost, if nothing else). I don't know
what their sales at the higher end of their product line are.
