Why is true multitasking in background important?

Yeah, I'd be really pissed off if that happened to me.

Only people who ever tried to sell me stuff via mobile were
Sprint, and I made them stop.

Ever since I ported my home number to a cell phone and dropped my landline,
the telco calls me all the time.
