Default Mount your iPhone as a disk drive

Mount your iPhone as a disk drive
http://digg.com/apple/Mount_your_iPhone_as_a_disk_drive

theifoneblog.blogspot.com —

Mount your iPhone as a disk drive in 5 mins! For Windows & Mac users!
Then you can transfer data to the OSX file system used on the iPhone.
This is a simple way for instance to put NES Roms on the iPhone to
play all those old arcade games using the NES simulator. Another use
would be to transfer files FROM the iPhone for use on another device
or computer. Share someones MP3 etc.

iPhone must be jailbroken to allow access.

Jailbreaking just got a *lot* more tempting.

For what, vast storage space your 750GB hard drive lacks?

That's about as dumb as using it for a flashlight!

Now, my question:

If I DO mount it to a computer, can I copy DivX movies and MP3s off onto
this "disk drive" and punch PLAY to see them after I go out the door to
lunch?

Even if I "convert" them to the few codecs iPhone supports, will it play
its own videos and audios copied with Windows Explorer straight to the
Iphone memory without the iTunes nanny reporting?

Can I REVERSE the USB port and hook it to a printer, external disk drive or
other USB device and use it in HOST or OTG mode like:
http://www.harbaum.org/till/n800_usb/index.shtml
(any USB-A female-to-female adapter works to change the gender for host
mode.)
http://tabletblog.com/2008/03/n810-native-usb-host.html

My N800 plugs into its own 1TB My Book FAT32, now. It doesn't support NTFS
drives, though, and there is a new kluge to get power to the laptop USB
drives:

No, for the nearly 1.7lbs that the iPhone lacks. My hard drive is about
4"x6"x1" and weighs nearly 2 lbs. My iPhone is 4.5"x2.4"x0.48" and only
4.7 ounces.

Oh, you meant capacity. While that's certainly a valid point, many
tasks don't need a massive amount of storage. If you're taking a
spreadsheet home from the office, or need to copy a NIC driver to a
freshly installed PC, the iPod's storage space is more then sufficient.

>That's about as dumb as using it for a flashlight!

It's about the right tool for the right job.

A hard drive is a great tool to move a massive amount of data, but not
very effective for keeping a small amount of data with you for
infrequent use.

A dedicated USB flash drive would at first glance seem more appropriate,
however, reducing the count of items in my pocket is a worthy enough
goal if you know that you'll have the needed cable on both ends.

I'm probably one of the few people here that carries a mini-flashlight
in my pocket much of the time. I use it about three times a week on
average. When I don't have it, my next best was always to pull out my
mobile phone or PDA and use it as a small light source.

Obviously this isn't a flashlight replacement for a CSI, but for finding
the car keys that jumped out of your jacket pocket to the theatre floor
as you picked up the jacket? A mobile phone is more then qualified.

If you're going to the theatre, please do the REST of us a favor and leave
your damned iPhone IN THE CAR! We'll find an usher with a flashlight if
you drop your keys and even help you find them IF you leave the damned
sellphone outside the auditorium.....please?

I said "please".....(c;

Well...."gate guard" or "bouncer" is perhaps a better term....(c;

.....depends on what theatre you go to and what's playing to which audience.

The did. Usher is now an R/B artist. I'm not a big fan however.

I thought those NC black muslims kept the peace in those theaters you
frequent Larry. They may not like you thinking of them as ushers.

All dressed up in suits with their right hand sliding inside the left
inside jacket when ever they stare at Larry and his amigos ;>)

Wow- that was an exceptionally bigoted statement. Makes you look like an
even bigger idiot.
