Locking down 3G/EDGE on the Blackjack2

Why won't AT&T support document this somewhere?

To switch between 3G and EDGE on the Samsung Blackjack II (WM 6.0) -

1. Goto Wireless Manager
2. Disconnect Cellular Data (a Menu option)
3. *Very quickly (otherwise 3G will start up again), run bandsel.exe
(I have a shortcut to it on my recently-used apps bar) and pick
"GSM850" or "GSM1900", and click Done.

You will now remain in EDGE mode (the "3G" icon on the 1st line of the
Home Screen becomes "E").

To get back to 3G, repeat steps 1-3, selecting "Auto" in bandsel.exe

* If you don't do step 3 fast enough, you will get a "Unable to set
band selection" message from bandsel.exe


Anyone know a better way?
