They may say they did make it louder but it's not.
The test that was done in front of me today proves that. DB Sound meter was
placed on the earphone of a non-updated
iPhone. The same iPhone was then flashed to the new firmware. Readings were
taken again. Same readings. Total BS If apple is saying that it's louder.
Then again, Look where the info comes from and you can go from there. :)

Proof that was tested and bunk as always.

Given they are trying to reduce load on the little battery, I can't imagine
they'd jack up the load on the audio power amp so this makes sense.
