Default R.I.P. Stanley Cline, a.k.a. roamer1

Folks,

I apologize if this has already been posted, and further apologize if
anyone feels this is off-topic, but considering the situation, I hope
you will indulge me.

Some of you who have frequented these newsgroups for a while may have
known a person by the name of Stanley Cline, known to many as roamer1.
A while back, he frequented the alt.cellular.* newsgroups, and was a
wealth of information regarding various wireless networks and their
histories. If you wanted a new PRL update on Verizon or Sprint analyzed
for changes, he was the go-to guy. And he ran a site, www.roamer1.org,
with reviews and analyses of coverage and roaming agreements for all the
major carriers.

I am sad to announce that Stanley passed away in his sleep on Tuesday,
July 24, at the age of 31, and he was buried the following Friday.
Apparently the cause of death is unknown at this time.

The announcement can be found here:

http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...2&page=1&pp=15

I never knew Stanley personally, but we posted a lot of messages
together on usenet in the alt.cellular.* groups. Sadly usenet has since
turned into a total cesspool or trolls and self appointed figureheads,
and I gave up on it, but I think he might've still been posting here up
until recently.

Honestly, I thought he was a lot older. That's not an insult; he just
knew so much about wireless networks and their history. He had to have
been a real cellular geek at a very early age, like myself, to have
known so much. His maturity, a real rarity these days, also threw me
off. I think it's incredibly sad that we've lost such a knowledgeable
guy, and at such an early age.

At any rate, in the event people are still here who knew him, I thought
it best to pass the word along.

Rest in peace, Stanley. We'll miss you.

I, too, knew of Stanley. Even e-mailed him on the occasion.
He was a wealth of information, as Isaiah has said.

Prayers and props to Stanley and his loved ones.

Thank you for posting this. I had not heard this until now.

I knew Stan personally, meeting him once in 2005 in Atlanta. A strange
fellow. Nice, but quite strange.

He had a very broad knowledge of the cellular industry from a
technical perspective. He even worked for a CLEC (Level 3) in downtown
Atlanta.

I have no idea how he died, but hopefully he will now find peace in
Heaven.

Dave

I'm sorry to say this but...This was posted 7/23/2007 at 725am, pre-dating
the 24th.
If the dates are correct isn't he TO BE buried Friday the 27th? As in
tomorrow?

romer1 died in his sleep on the 17th of July.
I think the OP had a bit of Old Timer's disease :-)
That, and the shock of someone so young and prolific
in his knowledge of the cellular world passing away.

Burial has already occurred.

I see. I certainly did not want to be insensitive. It just threw me with the
dates.
