Default First iPhone Take Apart - Interesting!

So many features, where do we start? Ah, how about HERE:

"Video playback

* Video formats supported: H.264 video, up to 1.5 Mbps, 640 by 480
pixels, 30 frames per second, Low-Complexity version of the H.264
Baseline Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio
in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats; H.264 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640
by 480 pixels, 30 frames per second, Baseline Profile up to Level 3.0
with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps, 48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and
..mov file formats; MPEG-4 video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640 by 480 pixels, 30
frames per second, Simple Profile with AAC-LC audio up to 160 Kbps,
48kHz, stereo audio in .m4v, .mp4, and .mov file formats"

Hmm....no Flash, no Realvideo rmanything, no AVI, no DivX, no fli, no
wmv, no xvid. I guess it will play ol' mpg files, though. 85% of the
video posted on the internet it won't play. How sad for lack of a few
codecs.

"Audio playback

* Frequency response: 20Hz to 20,000Hz
* Audio formats supported: AAC, Protected AAC, MP3, MP3 VBR, Audible
(formats 2, 3, and 4), Apple Lossless, AIFF, and WAV"

Hmm....no FLAC, no RealAudio, no Flash, no Windows Media, no OGG to make
the gamers happy, no asx either. Which COMMON audio encoding formats
have I forgotten it won't play, either?

"Power and battery3

* Built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery
* Charging via USB to computer system or power adapter
*

Talk time:
Up to 12 hours on 2G
Up to 5 hours on 3G

* Standby time: Up to 300 hours
*

Internet use:
Up to 5 hours on 3G
Up to 9 hours on Wi-Fi

* Video playback: Up to 10 hours
* Audio playback: Up to 30 hours"

I want to see it play TEN HOURS of FULL SCREEN VIDEO with the display
brightness turned up so you can see the picture brighter than the mirror
over the screen and the tiny speaker turned up so you can hear it over
the fan in a PC. "Up to" is Newspeak. Noone can sue "up to".

"Environmental requirements

* Operating temperature: 32° to 95° F
(0° to 35° C)"

It was too hot to play iPhone outdoors in Charleston, SC, today. It's
too cold to play iPhones North of the Mason-Dixon Line all winter! Does
it ever get warm enough in MN or ME to play iphone outdoors in specs?

"Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR"
Doesn't say WHAT Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR it supports.
FTP?
OBEX?
DUN?
PAN?
what? what? WHAT?!
Can I PAN to it over BT and swap pictures of the kids with a file
manager at Hooters? I think NOT!

Miss opportunities:
ONE cheap speaker, no stereo w/o headphones...
Still no swappable BATTERY!
No microSDHC card or any usable PORTS. USB is for charging and WHAT?!
Can I plug USB into a netbook and swap pictures of the kids with a file
manager at Hooters? I think NOT!
Why does it need a "dock connector" when it has a USB CONNECTOR?!!

http://images.apple.com/iphone/iphon...otos-gallery4-
20090608.jpg
Would YOU brag about THIS iPhone picture trying to sell it to someone?
Look at the little girls' faces all WASHED OUT! How horrible!

Looks better....but not even close, yet.

Bring up this big picture and magnify it by clicking on it.

Look in the upper right area and you'll see a light green RF submodule
to the right of the Sky chip. Look closely at the green submodule. See
where it has turned brown in a brand new phone? Those chips get HOT!

Now look between the light green module and the chip below it marked:
338S0353. Why is the board BURNED out from under this IC? The blue is
burned off it, and those surface mounted components are scorched!

Something here ain't right!

Now, go down to 36MY1EE below it. Those components are burned, too!
The tiny IC or transistor upper right of 36MY1EE is Toasted, as is the
black component right above the red dot!

Outside the shield around 36MY1EE, to the right of it, notice more
components burned the board. The black square is probably a burned
transistor, too burned to read it.

To the left of 36MY1EE is 337S3754. Look above this IC...It scorched
the board, too! As heat rises, all this burning must have occurred when
this board was vertical in the same way the picture is...burned on the
UPside of these components....

SMP3i above 337S3754 is also burned on top....as are all the rest of the
chips, but to a much lesser degree....always on top in the picture.

Blue boards don't turn brown from soldering. They turn brown from
burning or intense overheating. Something in here got awful HOT!

It's NOT any kind of shadow because the three diplexers marked TQM on
the right show no heating or discoloration whatsoever. They are passive
RF components, not ICs under power.

Most disturbing.....this phone ran home on the plane I'm sure....while
they were all playing with the new toy. Taking off the RF shield didn't
scorch anything....the RF shielding is untouched.

If you really want to know... Try asking in the very active
(sci.electronics.design) or another electronics group.

There are quite savvy iPhone people in these groups, here. I think it
important to point out this potential problem where all, including
potential iPhone customers can get something besides company-sponsored net
advertising from the shills and fanbois.

I'd sure hate to fight the ATT lawyers looking for contract payment if it's
crap, wouldn't you?

You should really go and join a newsgroup where you actually know what
you're talking about ... alt.eat.elephant.dung or rec.arts.im-an-idiot
perhaps.

.....sez the guy who comes in his pants whenever he sees a Motorola logo.

It's stunning, isn't it, to watch John Navas get all bent out of shape
when someone ELSE acts like a turdball know-it-all fanboi. It's as if
Navas hasn't figured out that he doesn't own that franchise.

Hence the earlier thread -- "Oxford v. Navas"...
