Many reviews of the Garmin GPS' say its far better than whatever was
built into their car.

This is true. My wife's lexus has one built in the dash from the
factory. I put my Garman
Nuvi 660 in there and it has a faster responce then the factory one.

You must be much younger than I not to get cramps or worse in your
fingers from using an iPhone for browsing over long periods

You've got to be kidding.
Probably older than you.
Never had "finger fatigue". LOL

Don't break your arm, patting yourself on the back.
When and if there's an iPhone with a 640 x 480 screen
I'll reconsider. AT&T has already leaked that a 3G iPhone
is coming next year.
Meanwhile I'm loving my Garmin GPS.

If you had actually read any of the original post, you'd know full
well that I took my $$ and bought a Garmin GPS instead of an iPhone.
Those that spent so much on an iPhone are unwilling to admit to
themselves that maybe its less than perfect with no 3G, no GPS,
no To DO List, etc, etc. A 3 1/2 " screen is GREAT for a GPS,
not so great for squeezing in a keyboard or trying to do
Internet Browsing.
