Google Retools Picasa for iPhone Users
By Bryan Gardiner December 12, 2007 | 8:14:09

You can now add Picasa to the list of iPhone (and presumably the iPod
Touch)-optimized services that Google is rolling out the door of
late.

On Wednesday, the company announced that it decided to wave the magic
mobile OSX wand over its popular photo-sharing site after discovering
that there were "some very cool AJAXy features," which were designed
only (gasp) with a "desktop web-browsing experience in mind." Not for
long!

As Joe Walnes, a software engineer at Google writes on the company's
mobile blog:

Today, I'm happy to tell you that we've just released this new iPhone
interface for Picasa. After you go to Picasa on your iPhone and log
in, you can quickly see all your albums that you've uploaded to Picasa
web. If you click on any of the albums, you can get a full view of
your picture with comments from your friends. Or you can click on
Slideshow, sit back and watch the pictures scroll. You can also search
for photos in your album or through community photos. Finally, with
one of my favorite features, you can view your friends' albums through
favorites.
Additionally, Walnes says pictures can be displayed in both landscape
and portrait mode (you know, like all other web pages on the iPhone).
It's also probably worth mentioning that Picasa has an iPhoto plugin
that will automatically whisk your pictures from iPhoto and put them
into Google's free photo sharing service.

If you missed the news last week, the newly optimized Picasa actually
comes only days after Google announced a new streamlined core menu for
iPhone users as well.

As such, the new mobile friendly Picasa has been duly added to the
"More" tab on Google's iPhone-optimized homepage...or you can simply
go to: http://picasaweb.google.com.

As we said before: More iPhone optimizing = more Android practice.
Expect more of the same in the coming weeks, especially as Google's
software engineers are softly "encouraged" to devote their 20 percent
to all things mobile.

More old technology. Someday they might catch up to the real world- if the
phone lasts that long.
