Default Activating Sprint CDMA Treo 650 on Verizon?

Is such a thing possible? I have the non-sim CDMA version of the sprint
treo 650. It was given to me as payment for working on a computer. I love
it as a pda, but I am sick of carrying two phones around. All I want is to
be able to use the phone and send/recieve text messages. Mobile web would
be nice, but is not a requirement. Every time I have called cust serv/tech
support on this I have gotten a runaround with no clear answer.

VZW will not activate phones whose ESN is not in their database. Sprint
phones will not be accepted by VZW.

How does an ESN get into VZW's database? Does this mean that the only
phones that can be used are those originally sold by VZW?

Generally yes, however some phones from US Cellular and AllTel have been
able to be activated by VZW. Sprint phones are software locked, and can
not be used outside of Sprint.

That is not totally correct. Sprint can be activated on Verizon but
from what I heard it is a pain in the neck even if the phone unlocked
to activate on Verizon. According to the howard forums sprint is
supposed to provide consumer the unlock code, do to a court case.

The only thing it may not be able to access the data part. That part
would need reflashing.

ESN does not have to be in the database to be activated on the Verizon
network otherwise Pageplus or other MNVO could not activate the phone
for their customers

Pageplus and others MNVO can activate most cdma unlock phones.
The problem is the data part may not work. The phone the poster has
may be stuck on the 1900 mhz band, which could cause the phone to roam
a lot.

At this time it is not illegal to unlock a cell phone in the U.S.

I was not aware of that.

In any event, it would probably be simpler to flash the Sprint phone with
the VZW firmware (if available for that model phone) once the ESN is
approved for activation.

No arguement here, but remember VZW has the last say on what they will
activate. Even with the new rules the phone "must be compatible" with
their network. Sanyo phones from Sprint will be difficult.

I would not go into that hassle. I would just buy another phone.

Anyway this is all going to change in a few years. We may have to
get new phones. Do to Verizon upgrading to LTE.

I do not know if Verizon will ever turn off CDMA but only MVNO may be
able to use this and foreign visitors.

To The other poster

You can get some CDMA models from Village Panty that works on Pageplus
(PP). Also, you can buy some inpulse models at wal-mart and Ugly
Eric can activate them on PP Samsung models from what I read, can
be activated without a problem on PagePlus.

Moto Raz can be activated on PP, but it is a pain in the neck.
Requires some ESN swapping.

Nothing like installing the worst crippleware available to screw up a
perfectly good PDA.....
