VZW can't own Alltel in Charleston........

FCC Regulations against owning BOTH 800 A and B in one market.

Matter of fact that would be true for across SC.....

I wonder who my new carrier would be??

I know it's hard to believe, but VZW ISN'T omnipotent against FCC
regulations.

Just a point.

I'd NEVER come back to VZW. I'd rather do without than deal with those
assholes.....got it?

Never mind URL. It's all over the place. The Jews at Goldman-Sachs are in
financial trouble like the rest of their kind so gotta sell off assets.

I doubt FCC will allow it.....we'll see. FCC has the final word.

It was nice having unlimited internet while it lasted......

After Alltel's demise, noone will have unlimited internet service on any
system, here, and in most places......

Maybe there were at one point, but apparently not as recently
as the Cingular acquisition of AT&T Wireless. AT&T still owns
both A and B sides at least along most of the east coast of Florida,
in chunks of eastern Texas and in the Virgin Islands, that I know
of, from that acquisition. I don't think the FCC special-cases
800 Mhz any more, if there are 1900 MHz competitors then all is
well.

Even if they did divest themselves of one of the spectrum licenses
to help pay for an acquisition they wouldn't necessarily sell the
customers with it. If AT&T wanted the spectrum they might not
want to take all those customers with CDMA phones along with
it, they might prefer trying to persuade you to buy your own new
equipment if you want to jump ship from Verizon.

I think I've seen rumors about Verizon acquiring Alltel every year
since 2004 or 2005, though, so I'm not quite sure you have a lot to
worry about. Then again, Alltel has a lot of debt (at 13%, see

http://www.reuters.com/article/newIs...29069320080403

) in a bad credit market so maybe this year's rumor is more credible?

Wrong. IIRC, AT&T operates on both A & B bands in south Florida. Now
that the 1900 MHz PCS band is available, I think they can now do this.

Besides, if VZW had to, they'd sell off one of the bands to AT&T. I'm
sure they'd love to have some 800 MHz spectrum.

Dave

Actually, I like Alltel a bit more than VZW. Unfortunately, Alltel is
not available where I live. 30 miles to the west or south - but not in
my immediate area.

Interesting if this one passes muster.

IMHO, two companies will be left - VZW and AT&T.

VZW will eventually buy Sprint Nextel since they suck so bad. US
Cellular will probably sell out to VZW as well.

AT&T will buy the T-Mobile offerings since they can't get much of a
foot hold in the US. Either that, or use each other's towers without
roaming fees.

The next few years (3 to 5) shall be interesting in the wireless media
(phone + data) market.

No such regulation anymore. AT&T has both A&B in numerous markets as a
result of the acquisition of the old AT&T Wireless by Cingular.

This is very good news for Alltel subscribers. Instead of 13.2 million
mobile to mobile they'd be over 80 million MTM.

Congratulations Larry! You're probably going to be able to keep your
grandfathered Alltel plan, but have all the advantages of going with the
carrier that has the best coverage in the U.S., by far.

I'm adding the Alltel group to this.
