Maybe there were at one point, but apparently not as recently
as the Cingular acquisition of AT&T Wireless. AT&T still owns
both A and B sides at least along most of the east coast of Florida,
in chunks of eastern Texas and in the Virgin Islands, that I know
of, from that acquisition. I don't think the FCC special-cases
800 Mhz any more, if there are 1900 MHz competitors then all is
well.

Even if they did divest themselves of one of the spectrum licenses
to help pay for an acquisition they wouldn't necessarily sell the
customers with it. If AT&T wanted the spectrum they might not
want to take all those customers with CDMA phones along with
it, they might prefer trying to persuade you to buy your own new
equipment if you want to jump ship from Verizon.
I think I've seen rumors about Verizon acquiring Alltel every year
since 2004 or 2005, though, so I'm not quite sure you have a lot to
worry about. Then again, Alltel has a lot of debt (at 13%, see
http://www.reuters.com/article/newIs...29069320080403
) in a bad credit market so maybe this year's rumor is more credible?
