Default Replacement for Moto V325

We have a pair of Motorola V325's on our account here in central Illinois
and we're eligible for upgrade. We have a lot of dropped calls here at home
and we're not thrilled about the battery life of our phones. Can anyone
suggest which phones have the longest battery life and are best at holding
calls in a weak-signal area? TIA!

How much battery life do you need? Now much talk and how much standby?

Default Replacement for Moto V325

Thanks for the reply! We'd like to be able to take the phone off the charger
and talk for at least an hour. And, when we travel we'd like to be able to
take the phones off the chargers and have them on standby all day until we
get to a hotel to put them back on the chargers that night. We'd only be
making a few relatively short calls during the day.

Our biggest issue with the V325 is talk time--even with a higher-capacity
battery they don't seem to have a lot of use in them. Would the fact that
we're in a relatively weak-signal area lower the talk time available?

BTW, we're not really looking for anything beyond basic voice. We very
seldom use either the text or camera capabilities of the phone.

Thanks, again.

We're in the same situation with the V325i.

Unfortunately, there's no phone that's any better right now. Also, we
travel a lot to places like National Parks, and I found (as recently as
this week) that the AMPS capability of the V325/V325i is very useful in
non-urban areas where it often make the difference between coverage and
no coverage (GSM users were even worse off as CDMA coverage is far
better than GSM coverage in rural areas).

I thought they pulled the plug on AMPS/analog service...

The relatively week signal could be part of the problem. If the nearest
tower is far away, the phone might have to use maximum transmit power to
reach it. The received signal might also need more amplification.

I live in a densely populated area and have very little experience with
areas where towers are few and far between. My RAZR V3m seems to be
good for at least two or three days on standby but I usually put it on
charge when I go to bed.

No "plug" was pulled. The providers are no longer required to offer or
continue to provide analog service.

I would expect that the providers will continue to offer analog service
where it's profitable to do so. It may last for a year or five or ten
but when the equipment fails it probably will not be repaired. When
there are no longer enough users to pay the electric bill, it will be
shut off.

Not that it answers your question, but on my 325i, I have found the
extended battery
(it comes with a new back for the phone) makes a huge amount of
difference. Amazon is currently selling them for under $20, but some
other places such as Shopoem have had them for less.

If it were still offered and didn't have the nasty charging plug, I'd
suggest buying a Moto 815. Fortunately, you can pick them up (even
"new") on eBay. I have never had a phone that did better at capturing
and holding a signal in fringe areas, even though it's all digital.
Battery life is outstanding, as well. I don't use that phone a lot,
but I charge my 815 once or twice a week, where I charge the 325i
every night. If it were me, I'd try and buy an 815 off eBay.

Daryl

They were permitted to turn it off, not required to turn it off. In many
areas it's gone, and in many areas, especially non-urban areas, it's
still alive and well. I think it's more the smaller carriers that have
kept it on.

For what it is worth I think my wife's LG VX5300 is about as good
a CDMA phone as I've owned (and I have a general bias towards Motorola
phones). I live in a seam of poor coverage for every carrier (except,
recently, T-Mobile, now that they've added a cell near by) and the VX5300
is one of the few phones which has ever passed my standard weak signal
test by getting service in my basement. The V325 I tried when I first
bought service from Verizon failed. When my wife travels she often uses
the 5300 for two or three hours per day without recharging. I think
the standard battery is the same capacity as the battery in a 3G iPhone.

I notice Verizon sells this phone's replacement, the LG VX5400.
I don't know how similar this phone is to the 5300, but it might
be worth looking at.
