I'm considering replacing my Verizon LG6100 and iPAQ 4350 with a
Samsung i-730. I've surveyed the customer reviews of this device on
Amazon and CNet. It seems like all of the reviews are over a year
old. Is that a "newness" thing, or are new sales of this device not
happening?
I could use some input from people who've gone this route recently, or
have relevant info about it.
I'm considering upgrading it to WM5 as soon as I get it. Should I
expect it to work better after I do that?
>From what I understand, it's not possible to use it as a cell modem,
correct? Or is that an expensive option?
Several reviews I read concluded that this is a very good PDA, but not
a very good phone. Any thoughts about that?
Does the screen still darken as soon as the phone connects?
I don't plan to use email on this device, except perhaps for gmail,
although I do plan on syncing contacts and appointments. My PC at home
is a WIn2k desktop (my work laptop does not allow ActiveSync). I
currently use my Win2k desktop for syncing my 4350, and it works
fine. Should I expect any issues with this syncing the i-730?
There is talk of an i 760 coming out soon. Verizon reps know nothing of it.
Still, the i 730 is close to 2 years old. I have one, but went back to my
Razr... the i730 was too slow for calendar use, and too cumbersome for phone
use. The i 760 will not have a pull out antenna, and may have a camera (big
deal). Plus, it is about 20% thinner than the i 730 (that IS a big deal...
pun intended).

Wow that is pretty nice, and bonus it has a touchscreen unlike all these new
smartphones coming out, and the standard phone keys in addition to the
keyboard. Looks like a winner to me.
I have an i730. Love it but yes, the backlight going out when the phone
connects is a real pain in the ass.
I do not care if it is thick or thin. It just needs to fit into my pocket.
The typical Treo or Blackberry is too wide.
Make it as thick as you want (as in candybar) provided there is battery a
battery life of at least 12 hours.
I use my i730 to look at stock quotes and it needs to last the 6-1/2 the
market is open.

Did you do the WM5 upgrade on the i-730, or did you stay with WM2003?
Go the the Pdaphonehome site for the Samsung i730 and prepare to spend at
least 10 hours reading <g>. It is the best site I have found for good info
and hacks for this phone/pda.
