My son's VX 6000 just went in to Car Kit mode (says this on the display) and
only an ear bud/mic will allow you to hear a caller. There is no mention of
this 'feature' in the online manual nor can I find any mention in the setup
menus.
An online query to Verizon support was not much help. They suggested that
this is a symptom of the phone getting wet and that I should bring it into a
store for examination. The phone is almost 3 years old, so something could
be going bad. Anyone know of a hidden menu that can turn this on and off?
I have a LG VX6100, not 6000. On my phone phone press MENU, SETTINGS, VOICE
SERVICES, DRIVING MODE, and then select DEACTIVATE.
I Googled "LG vx6000 owner's manual" and searched the PDF owner's manual.
Searching for "car kit" didn't give any useful info. Maybe the info for my
6100 will help.

Yes, I have a 6100 and it has Driving Mode, but the 6000 does not have any
such thing in the menus. Thanks anyway!

Check and see if there is any lint or trash in the charging port on
the bottom. We have had some of the LG's come in and it has a little
bit of dirt in the port, just enough to make the phone go into car
kit. If you get a REAL knowledgable tech at VZW they may be able to
reset it wth a paper clip by shorting two of the contats together. I
have never been able to do it myself, but I have watched a co worker
do it.
I found some info elsewhere in web forums. The charging port is the issue
lots of times. I took the car charging cord and slid it in and out a bunch
of times to scrape the contacts and such. This seems to have fixed the car
kit mode for the time being. Sometimes the contacts short together,
moisture can also cause some corrosion between contacts that triggers the
car kit mode.
