Default Care to share your experience with prepaid Verizon?

Hi. I'm looking at the Verizon prepaid plans.

I'm not sure I'd save money with the 99 cents per day cover charge and
the 69 cents a minute for roaming (defined, I think, as using a
non-Verizon cell tower). Texts at a nickel sounds pretty good though.

Anyone tried this?

On the native Verizon network.

MUCH better pricing than Verizon itself.

Wow, thanks. 50 cents per month is MUCH better than Verizon's 99
cents per day! Do you know how page plus defines roaming? I didn't see
it on the site. It's 59 cents a minute to roam-- is it whenever you use
a non-verizon tower?

It's there. Poke around. You'll see the native Verizon network in red,
and the roaming areas in beige, and the no signal areas in white.

If you're blocking Flash or something, I don't know if that'll cause a
problem.

Pretty much. Your phone will tell you when it thinks it's roaming.
Reports are that it may falsely report roaming, but I've never heard it
falsely report that you're in a native Verizon area when you're not.
That's fine with me.

50 cents/month. 1400 minutes for $80. The way their funny money works,
it can be a great deal, even for the free nights/weekends at 99
cents/day. Think about it: if you talk for, say, 15 minutes on average
after 9pm and each Saturday and Sunday, you're probably better off with
the nights/weekends.

And since the 99 cents/day comes out of your funny money account, it's
actually much cheaper than that--it's actually 47 cents/day if you fill
up with $80 cards (which actually put $168 in your account).

Even if you don't play those games, for straight prepaid it's a great
deal on a great network. Fill up with a single $80 card, get $168 on
your account, and deduct at 12 cents/minute; real price is 5.5
cents/minute or so. The minutes expire after 4 months UNLESS you add
money to your account--any amount. So add $10 to your account every 119
days and stretch that initial $80 out as far as you need.

not to hijack this thread but I really like Virgin Prepaid if you're not
going to be doing lots of calling. I got my mom it for mother's day last
year-- $20 for the phone then $90 for 1000 minutes that don't expire for a
year. Great deal. Sprint network, so it's decent though not stellar
coverage in her area.

Dunno from Verizon, but I'm thinking it might be worthwhile to
scope out tMobile's prepaid.

Can't recall the details, but that's the one I went with for two
seldom-used phones some years back.

Bottom line is that it's about a hundred bucks to sign up (cost
of phone + a block of minutes), but from then on it's only a
couple bucks a year max plus any minutes you need to replace.

Unused minutes roll over indefinitely and are prices at 30-some
cents per...

For my application, it's the deal to beat.

X2 re: PagePlus.

Had them for Mom's phone for the past 4 years. Very happy with the service.

A bonus is that just about any Verizon phone from the past 6-7 years will
work. I like the fact that you can still use the old StarTac/Timeport
phones.

By the way, as you research this, you'll notice that roaming on PP requires
double dialing, therefore it's never a surprise.

Agreed. If you need/want to go pre-paid, Page Plus is the way to go.

Same here - have used Virgin Mobile for a couple of years,
and spend the $20 per every 90 days - just to keep things in control.
Works great for a basic phone, texting, etc
